Diagnosed with Crohn’s in 2004, David Garrard had surgery later that year to remove 12 inches of his small intestine. Since that time, he has made a remarkable recovery and aims to increase awareness of the painful disease that affects more than 1.4 million Americans. Like many people around the world, David Garrard lost his mother to breast cancer. He was only 14 years old at the time and one of four children living in Durham, North Carolina. Today, his foundation aims to support breast cancer research and help children who have a family member battling breast cancer.

Promoting Healthy Lifestyles for Kids

Encouraging youth to commit to a healthy, active lifestyle.

Throughout his life, David has been taught to listen to his body. “During my mother’s battle with breast cancer, it made me more conscientious about my health and the health of my family,” said Garrard. “My mother always talked about her illness and wanted us to take care of ourselves. She helped prepare us for her death through communication.” Today, more than ever before, Garrard is committed to maintaining a healthy lifestyle that includes daily exercise and good nutrition. The David Garrard Foundation aims to support programs and events that encourage youth to commit to a healthy, active lifestyle.
