David & Mary Garrard Team Up with Bright Holidays
to Deliver Gifts to Local Families in Need
JACKSONVILLE, FL (Dec. 14, 2010) – As part of an all-volunteer effort benefitting 813 local school children this holiday season, Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback David Garrard and his wife Mary delivered gifts of food and clothing to five less-fortunate families in our Jacksonville community today.
David, who has served as the honorary chair of local charity Bright Holidays for the past four years, took a few hours off from preparing for Sunday’s game in Indianapolis to give back to the community and honor the season of giving. Bright Holidays works with the principals of local schools to identify students and families who are in need of basic necessities, such as shoes that fit, or a coat to wear in cold weather.
“This is the time of year when all of us should remember others and reach out to those who need a helping hand,” said Garrard. Working with Mandarin Middle School to identify several families for a “special delivery,” David and Mary Garrard took to each family’s home a basket of food, gift cards for food, as well as wrapped packages for each child containing clothing, school supplies and a modest toy to help keep the spirit of the season alive. To enhance the experience, each family also received an autographed Jaguars football.
“Bright Holidays is proud of its association with David and Mary Garrard, and the David Garrard Foundation,” said John Forrester, founder and board chair of Bright Holidays. “We have worked together for several years and our two organizations share a life goal of remembering and serving the needs of others. We want to give back to our community.”
